Inwood grew fast and it grew new. The subdivisions along the Route 51 corridor and out toward Gerrardstown Road went up on what was farmland a generation ago, and almost all of them came with a full basement left unfinished. Berkeley County enforces egress the way the code is written. A lower-level bedroom needs a compliant egress window, which on most Inwood builds means cutting the foundation and setting a well — $3,500 to $6,500 installed, quoted up front, not discovered later. Skipping the moisture step is the shortcut that shows up three years later in the baseboards.
