Reston is an unincorporated planned community in Fairfax County. Building permits go through Land Development Services. Exterior changes also go through Reston Association design review. A county permit is not that approval. The original villages and the houses around Lake Anne and Lake Audubon are mostly 1960s through 1980s, on public water and sewer, with later housing toward Reston Town Center and the Silver Line. ZIPs 20190, 20191, and 20194 cover the community. The drive from Martinsburg is Route 9 to Leesburg, then Route 7 to Route 28 and the Dulles Toll Road, or I-66 to Route 28.
