Is it worth repairing my asphalt or should I just replace it?+
It comes down to the base. If the base is sound and the damage is surface-level — cracks, isolated potholes, surface wear — repairs and resurfacing are absolutely worth it and far cheaper than replacement. If the base has failed widely (sinking, widespread alligator cracking, drainage failure), repairs are a temporary patch on a surface that needs replacing. We give you the honest call.
Why do cold-patch pothole repairs keep failing?+
Because cold mix shoveled into a dirty, un-cut hole has nothing to bond to — it compresses, loosens, and pops out, especially through freeze-thaw. We cut the area clean, prep it, and use compacted hot-mix so the patch actually integrates with the surrounding asphalt and lasts.
How fast do small asphalt cracks become big problems?+
Fast, once water gets in. A hairline crack lets water reach the base; the Mid-Atlantic freeze-thaw cycle then expands it every winter, widening the crack and undermining the surface. Crack filling is cheap; the base repair it prevents is not. Addressing cracks early is the highest-return maintenance you can do.
What is a resurfacing overlay?+
An overlay is a new layer of asphalt placed over an existing surface whose base is still sound. It restores a smooth, sealed driving surface and adds years of life for significantly less than a full tear-out and replacement — but only when the base underneath is still good.
